Tongue Tie

A tongue tie is a condition where the frenulum linguae, the band of tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth, is too short or tight.

This can restrict the movement of the tongue, making it difficult to speak, eat, and swallow.
There are two main types of tongue tie: anterior and posterior. Anterior tongue tie is the most common type, and it occurs when the frenulum linguae attaches too close to the tip of the tongue.

Posterior tongue tie is less common, and it occurs when the frenulum linguae attaches too close to the base of the tongue.
Tongue tie can be diagnosed by a dentist or a speech-language pathologist.

There is no cure for tongue tie, but it can be treated with a procedure called frenotomy, which involves cutting the frenulum linguae. Frenotomy is a quick and painless procedure that is usually performed in a doctor's office.
